When stainless steel is either machined, stamped, or molded (as in this case), the part will often have sharp edges and a dull surface finish. This part requires a soft edge with a bright, shiny finish.
The first step was to deburr the part and get a uniform matte finish. A vibratory tumbling process with a fast cutting Ceramic Media after just a few hours achieved the perfect finish ready for polishing. Due to the hardness of the metal, a more aggressive media was used for this first step.
Polishing was achieved using dry tumbling with the Pegco GBW-3.9 Coarse Premium Treated Tumbling Media. This is typically a longer cycle time, 24 hours in this case, and can produce very high polishes. This can be seen in the near-mirror finish on the finished part on the right.
