Smooth Plastic Finish
To create a tight seal, these plastic parts needed to have a smooth, polished finish. Specifically, less than a 32 Ra surface profile was required.
A two-step process was needed with these parts. The first step used a Plastic Media in a barrel tumbler to soften the edges and remove any surface imperfections. While the result of this step was a smooth, matte finish, the surface profile was still too rough.
A second step with a Polishing Premium Ceramic Media produced the shiny finish seen on the right. The resulting surface profile was within the 32 Ra requirement. Both steps were done wet and took 4-6 hours.
